Kenny G, born Kenneth Bruce Gorelick on June 5, 1956, in Seattle, Washington, grew up in a Jewish family with a strong appreciation for music. He started playing the saxophone at the age of 10 after hearing a performance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Kenny G honed his skills throughout high school and attended the University of Washington, where he majored in accounting but continued to pursue his passion for music.

Kenny G began his professional career as a sideman for Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra in 1973. He then joined the Jeff Lorber Fusion, a jazz-funk band, which helped him gain recognition in the jazz world. In 1982, he signed with Arista Records and released his self-titled debut album. However, it was his fourth album, 'Duotones' (1986),that catapulted him to international stardom. The single 'Songbird' became a massive hit, reaching the top 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
