Early Life and Education
Ang Lee was born on October 23, 1954, in Pingtung, Taiwan. He developed a passion for filmmaking at a young age and pursued his interest in the arts. Lee studied theater at the National Taiwan University of Arts before moving to the United States to continue his education. He attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater in 1980.
