Amy Abigail Nuttall was born on June 7, 1982, in Blackburn, Lancashire. She showcased her passion for performing arts at a young age, attending Bury Grammar School for Girls and Tring Park School for the Performing Arts. Nuttall's early career was marked by her involvement with the National Youth Music Theatre, where she played the lead role of Princess Ismene in 'Aurelius'.

Nuttall's breakthrough came with her role as Chloe Atkinson in the ITV soap opera 'Emmerdale' from 2000 until 2005. She then captivated audiences as housemaid Ethel Parks in the critically acclaimed ITV period drama 'Downton Abbey' from 2011 to 2012.
